2007 Washington Wine Institute Update
The Washington Wine Institute introduced three bills in the 2007 Legislative Session: Senate Bill 5822/House Bill 2240 - Personal Services Senate Bill 5822/House Bill 2240 would allow for certain personal services to be performed by wineries,
like bottle signings, winemaker dinners and other similar education or informational activities
or events. These bills would also allow certain forms of what LCB considers “joint advertising”,
for example linking to retailer websites (more “Tied House” issues). To check the status of
these bills please visit Senate Bill 5899/House Bill 2242 - Special Occasion Permit Senate Bill 5899/House Bill 2242 would allow “local winery trade associations” to obtain a
special occasion permit so that they may hold wine tastings.
To check the status of these bills please visit Senate Bill 5898 - Common Carrier Senate Bill 5898 would allow wineries to ship to retailers, via common carrier, up to 100
cases a month. The bill would provide small wineries a convenient option in the self-distribution
of the wines to retailers. To check the status of this bill please visit As a WWI member, your interests will be skillfully represented in Olympia. Over the years, our team has developed close working relationships with Legislators, legislative staff, and regulatory entities that have proven to be extremely beneficial to our successes with the Legislature. Of course, our work would not be possible without the input of our member wineries and the insight they provide each Session. |
